Question site to site transfer is just a fake? (>goes through my computer)

Hi there,
I just downloaded Flash FXP 3.4.0 for transferring some stuff from one ftp site to another. Together around 5 GB. My connection here is Cable 2000/512.

BUT: when I use site to site transfer it is NOT faster than uploading directly from my PC. It seems that the Flash FXP Client downloads TO my PC and then uploads the file to the FTP Site.

I did everything in the way it was described in the tutorial. Connected to both sided and uses drag n drop from the old site to the new.

[L] PASV
[L] 227 Entering Passive Mode (85,214,55,215,220,3)
[R] PORT 85,214,55,215,220,3
[R] 200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV.
[R] STOR ZG Dschungelfluss.JPG
[R] 150 Ok to send data.
[L] RETR ZG Dschungelfluss.JPG
[L] 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for ZG Dschungelfluss.JPG (64113 bytes).
[L] 226 File send OK.
[R] 226 File receive OK.
Übertragen: ZG Dschungelfluss.JPG 62 KB in 1,17 Sekunde(n) (53,4 KB/s)

The ftp server I am downloading from is fast enough for DSL 16000/1024 (a friend of my tried). The ftp server I am uploading to is also fast enough for 100 kbyte/s (a friend of me tried). But I just reach my usual uploadfrom around 50 kbyte/s.

Site to site transfer must be a fake. Or what am I doing wrong?
Thx!
André

This can occur with some network configurations. Either due to your NAT/Router configuration or specific hardware.

I believe using internet connection sharing (ICS) can also cause this behavior.

do you really think that flashfxp would exist for almost 10years and be one of the most popular ftp client in the world if it was fake?

Not really, hehe.

Ok I will try it on a different location.

Well I tried it again:
-PC with Win XP directly connected to the Cable Modem instead of CableModem > Router > PC
-Windows Firewall turned off.

Now I cannot use the site to site transfer in any way.
Flash FXP creates folders, but is not able to upload a file to new ftp-site.
Attached a part of the log. Any idea?
I did not change any settings in the options

Usual uploading works, of course.

Thanks in advance
André

that's pretty funny situation.
when you removed router from your setup, both servers were able to get correct commands and it turns out neither site allow fxp transfer.
Quote:
[R] 500 Illegal PORT command.

[L] 500 Illegal PORT command.
but your router was 'breaking' commands used for fxp transfers which cuased you to do 'fake fxp'(local download and upload)
there are 2 things you'll have to do. one is to see if there's an update to your router or somehow change it's configuration so it doesn't screw around with ftp commands sent by flashfxp. also moving ftp server to non-default(tcp 21) port or using ssl encryption should prevent your router from messing with ftp commands. but even if that's done, either or both servers will have to be reconfigured to allow fxp transfers.

btw, what is the name/model of your router?

Hello MxxCon,

thank you very much for your information. I will play around with the settings... especially the encryption setting, hm we will see..

I have a AVM Fritz Box 7170 Router similar to this one: http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZB...LAN/index.html
Its a german all-in-one product with a Linux OS (ISDN in, ISDN out, Analog IN, Voice IP, ADSL-Modem, Router, Dyndns etc.)

The FTP Servers are both from Web Hosters, I have no possibility to change their Ports.

Thanks again, good support here!!!

If they are free / isp provided webservers then your pretty much out of luck, its common practice to never allow ftp bounce or fxp. If its a payed for premium service then you may be able to contact them and enquire about fxp abilities for your vs for ease of backup/mirroring purposes.
