FlashFXP hungs up while uploading large queues
* FlashFXP v[3].[36], build [1125], [X]registered, [ ]unregistered, [ ]pirated
* OS [X] WinXP, [ ] Win2K, [ ] Win98, [ ] WinME, [ ] Other
* Running behind NAT/router [X] Yes & Model [Linksys WRT54GS - DD-WRT], [ ] No, [ ] Not sure
* Running firewall [ ] Yes, Name [ ], Ver. [ ], or [X] No
* Running Antivirus [X] Yes, Name [AntiVir Personal] or [ ] No
* Network [X] xDSL, [ ] CABLE, [ ] Dail-Up, [ ] Other
I'm using FlashFXP since 2003 and was always very satisfied. But lately I had to upload large queues (1500files and more) and since then I noticed a strage behaviour:
FlashFXP _always_ hungs up while uploading. The process doesn't respond any more.
After killing the process and reloading FlashFXP it usually can complete it's queue, but sometimes it hungs up again.
What's worse: After this happens windows starts to act strangely and other programs start to hung up as well. A restart isn't avoidable.
My Window installation in a normal WinXP Pro 32bit and is VERY stable... no crashes in the last 6 month, except for this probem.
Hopefully you can help me.

is flashfxp minimized or active when it hangs? If active what does the screen show?
If you can't see the screen because of it being locked, go into the preferences and enable disk based logging and let us know the last 10 lines or so in the log file.
Also does 3.2 final lockup the same way the beta release does?

it's minimized to tray
sometimes I can get it back to the foreground, but the window is only a white box.

done.
I will try and then post the log.

I don't know. If the log doen't help I can downgrade for further testing.

I don't see anything abnormal in your ftp session log. In fact everything looks great.
I am doing some of my own tests to see if I can reproduce it.

It (nearly) always happens when I try to upload Typo3 or Joomla to a webhoster....
Next week I'll have more time 4 testing... Then I'll try to reproduce this behaviour with another PC.

I have also seen this behaviour many times, both with 3.2 final and the latest 2 betas. It always happens when I have a LOT of files to upload and I leave the computer alone for 30 minutes or so to upload.
I do not have any screen saver active so I know that's not it. That was my first thought
Typically what happens is I will try to come back and FlashFXP is frozen. Sometimes I can get the window open, and even view most of the window, but the queue frame is completely white and never redraws.
When I go into Task Manager and look at it, it says that FlashFXP is using 80-100% CPU, so I kill it.
As soon as I do that, everything in Windows freezes. If I can ctl+alt+delete and get Task Manager open again, it shows that explorer.exe is using 80-100% CPU now.
Killing explorer.exe sometimes fixes it, but usually it doesn't and the computer has to be restarted.
Suggestion: my suggestion to reproduce this bug is to just start uploading a massive list of files (make sure that there are lots of subfolders and files within those subfolders) and let it sit for at least 45 minutes and see if it happens.
Thanks!
-Kevin

The following queue was repeated roughly a dozen times
Transferred 19,845 files totaling 24.97 GB in 34 minutes 47 seconds (23,532.6 KB/s)
Along with several other bigger and smaller queues. I was unable to reproduce the hanging.

Hello again....
I switched to another FTP Client for the time being. However, I had to reinstall my whole computer last week due to an crashed harddrive. Yesterday I reinstalled FlashFXP and there we go again. :-( haning and crashing ...
At least I now know, that I'm not alone (thx KingSky).
@bigstar
I would gladly run some tests or answer any question you might have.
Greetings

The freezing/crashing issues with Flash FXP that I have experienced are due to nVidia Desktop manager (nView) being enabled, especially with drivers of the 8x.xx versions for Geforce FX 5200 (any ram size) and lord knows how many other cards using same drivers set that users have the desktop manager enabled suffer from similar crashes.
If this sounds like you please report and try and switching the Desktop manager off. then maybe like me you will find that Flash FXP will not hang/Crash or otherwise do anything abnormal.... Promise.
And as For the Nview forget about it no one really needs it.... Really...

I've had the very same problem for some time now. Linked to NVidia Desktop Manager, which I use alot (two screens, makes life much simpler).
Not sure if it is FlashFXP dieing because of something it does, or NVidia making it hang. I Have told Desktop Manager to ignore FlashFXP window, but still dies. Another thing that can often happen when Desktop Manger is running - when you minimize the FlashFXP window, you have a "minimized" window appear in the middle of the screen.. very odd.
