I have attached a test program to this message, It will attempt to reproduce the problem and hopefully allow me to determine the exact cause.
When you run the program you will see a visual display of results, and a test.log will be generated in the directory you ran it from.
In your reply include the test.log or copy it into the message.
Thanks

Yes, it's true, I customized Windows XP a great deal (using Xteq's X-Setup ( http://www.xteq.com ) - great free tool)....
now I tried a couple of settings, which deal with icons and explorer, but no change so far...I'll keep on searchin'

wild guess, but perhaps you could try deleting your icon cache.
tweakui from powertoys xp can do that.

E.g. I tried the "show icons with 256 colors if possible" switch...
If you change this setting all icons are rebuilt anyway.

Has anyone tried the icontest.zip that i posted several messages ago? If anyone who is having this problem could run it and give me the results, more than likely I can fix it. Right now it's the best chance you guys have of getting FlashFXP to work on your PC.

Running out of options...
It appears icontest.zip didn't help..
I have created a new debug version of FlashFXP.
A debug.log will be created in your FlashFXP folder. Containing detailed information about each error. This version of FlashFXP is slighly different then previous releases in that an error may occure and it does not display in the status window, you will have to check the debug.log. Once you have been able to reproduce the problem, send an email to support@flashfxp.com and attach a copy of your debug.log.
Thank You,
Charles DeWeese

sorry, nothing worked. This new version didn't even produce an errorlog.
also, the newest beta didn't help.
At least ftp works and I don't have to terminate the program via the taskmanager.

Are you still missing the file icons?
The test build and the latest public beta are identical, one has extra debuging while the other doesn't.

I forgot to ask this earlier, do you see folder icons in the Site Manager?
Also did you ever send me results from the icontest.zip? I believe the only results I saw were from daftpunknl
